Newry Chartered Accountants to go the extra mile for healthy hearts
Chartered Accountants in Newry are getting active to support Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stoke next Friday 20th April, as part of an all-Ireland charity initiative organised by Ireland’s biggest accountancy body.
The Newry event takes place on Friday 20th at 4pm at Newry City Football Club, Newry Showgrounds, Greenbank Industrial Estate.
The ‘Cheartered Accountants Healthy Heart Day’ events take place in 11 venues across the island. Chartered Accountants, students studying for the qualification will be joined by members of the public to run, walk or cycle, in order to raise funds and awareness for our partner charities Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke.
The initiative is part of an all-Ireland initiative with events taking place in Belfast, Derry, Dungannon, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kerry and Sligo. It is the first time that Chartered Accountants Ireland, Ireland’s largest professional body of accountants has undertaken such a widespread charity initiative.
Sporting stars with a background in Chartered Accountancy including GAA All-Ireland winners Sean Cavanagh (Tyrone) and Bernard Brogan (Dublin), and from the Rugby world, former British and Irish Lion Dick Milliken have backed the charity campaign. Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of both men and women in Ireland, but just 30 minutes of physical activity 5 times a week can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Chartered Accountants Ireland President, John Hannaway commented, “On behalf of all Chartered Accountants, I’m delighted to support the valuable efforts of The Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke. This initiative is a fantastic opportunity to get fit and active, have a family fun day out, while raising much-needed funds for charity.
“Most of us know some family member or friend who has suffered from a condition associated with heart disease and that is why we’re asking our members to go the extra mile next weekend. I believe that our choice of charity reflects the critical importance of tackling this debilitating and fatal condition. We’re encouraging everyone, whether they’re a Chartered Accountant or not, to get involved by signing up at www.charteredaccountants.ie/charityday.”
Vanessa Elder, Fundraising Manager with NI Chest Heart and Stroke said: “We are very grateful to be the nominated charity for the Chartered Accountants Ireland Charity Day. As a local charity all money raised will be used to support our local services such as cardiac, stroke and respiratory support groups across Northern Ireland, as well as stroke family liaison teams who help local families to live with life after a stroke.”
The Charity Day events are open to colleagues, families and friends, and members of the public are all encouraged to join in the initiative. A full list of events, times and locations are available on www.charteredaccountants.ie/charityday. Members of the public are most welcome to join us, and can either register online at the above link or register on the day at the event.
