MIXED FORTUNES FOR CARRICKCRUPPEN IN ALL COUNTY LEAGUE

Carrickcruppen 0-12 Clann Eireann 1-11

The Senior team travelled to Clann Eireann Park last Wednesday night for their second league fixture of the season and returned empty handed after a disappointing performance. Cruppen went into the interval with the scoreboard level on 5 points each with scores coming from Declan Carville (3 frees), Seamus Hughes and Stephen Harold. Mark Patton pointed from a free at the start of the second half to put the team a point in front before Clann Eireann scored a goal and three points without reply, Points from Barry Loughran and Seamus Hughes brought Cruppen back into it, Clann Eireann increased their lead with two more points, However a strong finish from Carrickcruppen with points from Declan Carville reduced the deficit to two points at the final whistle. It was a game we should have won. Discipline and taking the wrong options cost us on the night and if we can improve on these then there will be points picked up!

Carrickcruppen 1-15 Clan na Gael 1-8

What a difference a few days makes as Carrickcruppen comprehensively brushed aside the challenge of Clan na Gael on Sunday afternoon to register their first points of the campaign and banish the thoughts of the poor performance against Clann Eireann midweek. Cruppen dominated this game from the start with Declan Carville (3), Seamus Hughes and Cathal O’Grady all finishing off with fine scores after some great interchanges in play throughout the team. The direct free-flowing football at times was a joy to watch none more so than when Cathal O’Grady fired to the back of the net after some great play between Fiachra Bradley and Seamus Hughes. Further points from Declan Carville and Seamus Hughes had Cruppen 1-7 to 0-3 in front at the interval.

A Cathal O’Grady point opened the scoring for the home side at the start of the second half and Clans responded with two points. Billie-Joe Padden extended Cruppen’s lead with 3 excellent individual scores from distance, followed from a Niall Sexton point from play and two further free-kicks from Declan Carville. A mix up in the Carrickcruppen defence allowed Clans in for a soft goal which was deflected in off a defender and over the keepers head. Paul Cunningham scored the last point of the game and Cruppen had two points on the league table. A lot of improvement on the previous result against Clann Eireann and some great passages of play, although again the wrong decision in passing and slowing up the game often let Clans back in for scores when the more direct long ball should have been the option as this was working well for the team. Next up for Carrickcruppen is an away game to Wolfe Tones on Wednesday night at 7pm. Well Done Lads!!!!!
