Ruane expresses concern over Daisy Hill Hospital cuts

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has said that she is concerned that health staff will not be able to get to other hospitals to avail of Occupational Health treatment following the announcement that services are to be curtailed in Daisy Hill.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “Moving the service between St Luke’s Armagh and Craigavon Area hospital will mean that staff needing treatment may not be able to avail of the service due to the distances that need to be covered. This is a very important service that ensures that staff health is maintained so that they can either stay at work or return to work as soon as possible if they are ill. With current absenteeism due to illness adding to the fact that many positions within the health service are currently unfilled it is putting tremendous stress on the service being provided.”

“I am worried that the reduction of this service will add to the stress already being felt and other department could be affected. I would call on the Trust to look at ensuring that the service remains in Daisy Hill at full capacity so as to alleviate any further problems,” she added.
