The Southern Regional College is celebrating a massive 17 awards following recent successes at the two day Skillbuild Regional Finals. The Skillbuild competition takes teams of trade students from all of the regional colleges and training organisations in Northern Ireland and puts them to the test.
The SRC picked up impressive wins, such as The Skillbuild Best Young Apprentice Award, Skillbuild Chairpersons Cup, DEL Cup and Best Overall SkillBuild NI Apprentice, which was won by John Morgan of Newry who also picked up gold in Floor and Wall Tiling.
Head of School of Construction and the Built Environment at the Southern Regional College, Lindsay Bronte, commented on the outstanding achievement, “This is an outstanding success for the SRC student and staff and it was great to see the students achieving this level of success. The standard of the competitions is clearly improving year on year.”
Ms Bronte also mentioned the potential of competing at national and global competitions, “This success provides a great platform for the young people to go further and represent NI in the UK competitions later in the year and hopefully on the World Skills in Leipzig in 2013. This success will also gain them an edge in the very competitive jobs market.”
