Meningitis fundraising walk set for Newry

A spokeswoman for Meningitis UK has appealed to locals to take part in a walk to help fight against meningitis. The charity is hosting two walks in Northern Ireland to raise money for vaccine research. Both walks, known as ‘Meningitis UK’s Big Strolls’, will take place along the Causeway Coast and Newry Canal on Sunday 3rd June.

Speaking to Newry Times, Spokeswoman Gemma Langley, said: “Winding along the green banks of the Newry Canal as far as Poyntzpass, the 11-mile walk makes a great day out in the fresh air for all the family on Sunday, June 3rd. If it’s breathtaking sea views that you’re craving, the 13-mile walk along the rugged cliff-top Causeway coast path will make an invigorating adventure for the more seasoned walker on Saturday, June 2.”

“Meningitis can strike within four hours and its symptoms are notoriously difficult to detect. This is why Meningitis UK is solely focused on developing preventative vaccines in order to protect future generations,” she said.

To sign up for the Meningitis UK Big Strolls, contact Meningitis UK on 0117 303 33 47 or go to: www.meningitisuk.org/bigstroll.
