Newry City U-18s, Meet The Players: Brendan D’Arcy

Recently Newry Times caught up with u-18s Defender Brendan D’Arcy:

Name: Brendan D’Arcy

Age: 18

Position: Left back/Left winger

Previous clubs: Bessbrook Utd, Banbridge Town, Hillsborough F.C, Sea Patrick.

Greatest achievement so far in your career? Playing in the Foyle Cup was a great experience as the coaching staff treated us like professionals and we performed well, but my best experience so far would be scoring the winning goal against Banbridge Town which was my former club.

Best player you have played against? Lisburn Youths Josh Barton, he’s now playing his football with Aston Villa.

Best ground you have played in? On the day Newry Show Grounds is as good as any.

Do you support any English clubs? Arsenal

What club would you like to play for in the future? I would like to progress with Newry and if the chance arises I’d like to see if I can play at a higher level either in Ireland or across the water.

What is one thing that you enjoy while playing football? The best thing about football is the friends you make while playing it, however there is no better feeling than scoring goals and winning.

What inspires you to play football? My Dad would be the biggest inspiration and then the support I get from family and friends,

Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far? My Dad would be one of them as he believes I can push on and be the best in any team I play for, also Ryan McConville and Gary Redpath have helped me improve a lot due to their knowledge of the game and belief they have in me.

What brought you to play for Newry? It’s my local big club. Plus I know if I perform well and consistently I’ll be given the chance at Reserve and maybe first team football. The main reason is I heard Ryan McConville was the Manager.

Who is the biggest joker in the team? Connor Lenaghan, the lad just doesn’t stop talking and the stories he tells need a higher rating than PG

Who is the best trainer at the club? I’d have to say Conan Dillon as he hasn’t missed a training session all year however Jordy Kings attitude and commitment to training is incredible, he puts in the work.

And finally…What’s your favourite thing about playing for Newry? Getting to play in the Show grounds and the chance to play reserve and first team football.
