Newry homes to benefit from window replacement scheme

144 Housing Executive homes in the Newry area are set to receive new PVC double glazed windows. The windows will be delivered through a new Housing Executive scheme costing in the region of £340,000.

Minister for Social Development, Nelson McCausland spoke of the scheme saying, “Through the Programme for Government the Northern Ireland Executive has set an objective to have the Housing Executive improve the thermal efficiency of their housing stock and provide full double glazing by 2014/15. In recent months the Northern Ireland Executive has allocated an additional £4 million to help achieve that objective.”

He continued, “Programmes such as this in Newry show that decisions taken at the Executive table can have direct positive impacts on the lives of people in our communities. The installation of new double glazing not only makes the tenants homes more comfortable, but will help them reduce energy bills.”

Jim Bagnall, Newry Manager for the The Housing Executive, said “This significant investment demonstrates our commitment to providing good quality, well maintained homes for our tenants in Newry. The new double glazed windows will not only improve each individual property but also give the area a real lift. We will continue to liaise with tenants and their representatives to keep them informed of progress throughout the scheme and will work with our Contractor Bann Ltd to address any issues which may arise.”
