Motorist caught driving 74mph in a 30mph zone

Police in Kilkeel were shocked after they recently carried out a road safety operation in the Greencastle Street and Newcastle Road areas. On Thursday 29th March officers detected one motorist driving at a frightening 74mph in a 30mph zone. Horrified officers reported the dangerous motorist to the Public Prosecution Service.

Speaking to Newry Times, Inspector Gary McClatchey said, “Speeding is one of the major causes of collisions and injury or death on our roads and is unacceptable. Everyone has a responsibility to protect themselves and other road users when driving and I would appeal to all motorists to slow down. We will continue to conduct road safety operations in the area and will continue to enforce the speed limits.”

“I would ask all drivers to abide by speed limits and drive carefully and considerately on our roads,” he added.
