Newry telecommunications centre set to take over Vodafone staff
The Communications Workers Union (CWU) in the Republic of Ireland has warned that over 300 jobs may be lost in Dublin and Dundalk as Newry based call centre Teleperformance takes over the contract for Vodafone.
There is speculation that the jobs may be transferred to Newry, with the CWU claiming Vodafone told them the jobs will be moved north within the next 6 to 8 months. Vodafone have announced that staff will retain the same terms and conditions and no jobs will be lost.
Terry Delaney, Deputy General Secretary of the Communications Workers Union, has said that although the roles will move to Newry, relocation may not be good for some staff, particularly those from the Dublin call centre.
Vodafone have responded to the union’s concerns by saying a six week consultation process has begun with staff.
