Letters to the Editor
Statement from the Joe Conway / Brendan Watters Cumann Republican Sinn Fein Newry. Dear Editor, “We wish to put on record our disgust at the British judicial system here in occupied Ireland after 5 Republican Sinn Fein [RSF] members from County Armagh were heavily fined following an Easter commemoration in Lurgan last year. The RSF members were found guilty on the 7th March in the British courts for simply honouring Ireland’s Patriot dead last Easter. One member from our own Cumann here in Newry was however acquitted after an RUC/PSNI witness was discredited for fabricating evidence against him. The heavy fines handed out, which ranged between £200 and £500, is further proof that British rule in Ireland is continuing to brutalize republicans opposed to the partionist set-up in Ireland.”
