Flynn berates BT’s disconnection policy
Slieve Gullion councillor Anthony Flynn has reacted angrily to reports from a constituent who contacted him following BT’s decision to disconnect their 90 year old mother’s phone service.
Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Flynn said, “The behaviour of BT in this case has been absolutely disgraceful. This Mullaghban resident contacted me following BT’s decision, without any notification, to disconnect her mother’s telephone line. In doing this BT also rendered this lady’s person alarm invalid, thus leaving a frail pensioner totally isolated.”
“I immediately contacted BT on learning of their actions and they informed me that this customer had not paid their bill – something which the family dispute. However I feel that regardless of this BT should re-examine their policy taking into consideration if there is a personal safety alarm attached to the telephone,” Flynn continued.
He added, “Luckily on this occasion nothing untoward occurred and the phone service has been reconnected.”
