Hearty speaks out over Northern Bank closure
Newry Times reported yesterday that the Crossmaglen branch of the Northern Bank is set to close on 25th May following a Northern Bank announcement on 8th March.
Crossmaglen Sinn Féin councillor Terry Hearty has described this as a blow to the town and to the local economy, “I am shocked by this decision to close completely the Crossmaglen branch of the Northern Bank. This was a busy branch which provided an essential service to both business and personal customers. Sinn Féin representatives have spoken to the Northern Bank and although we have been assured that no jobs will be lost I fail to see how this could be the case.”
He continued, “This will be a worrying time for those employed in the Crossmaglen branch and relocating to Newry may not be appropriate for their situations. The same can be said for the bank’s customers who are bound to feel let down by this decision.”
