Education Minister, John O’Dowd, congratulated Dominican @ Orana Playgroup, Newry on their 25th anniversary during a visit to their premises yesterday. During the visit the Minister had the opportunity to meet staff and the management committee as well as the children and some of their parents. The Minister said, “It is a pleasure to visit Dominican @ Orana Playgroup today and to join with you in celebrating your 25 years in operation. A recent Inspection report rated the provision at Dominican as ‘outstanding’ and that is something which you should all be very proud of. The early years in a child’s life are the most important in shaping their future and unlocking their potential. Pre-school education aims to prepare the whole child – personally, socially, emotionally and physically for future development and learning, with an emphasis on developing their knowledge, skills and understanding through play and experimental learning.”
The Minister added, “The activities I have seen today with the children in this playgroup certainly inspire me with confidence that these aims are being achieved. This is down to the level of commitment by all those involved with the Dominican @ Orana Playgroup. I have thoroughly enjoyed my visit here today and would like to thank all those involved for their warm welcome. I would also like to wish all the children and their families the very best for the future.”
