Longstone GAC, club news and events – 20th February

Longstone reserves had a challenge game away to an Errigal Ciaran reserve side on Sunday and the youthful Longstone side acquitted themselves well against strong opposition. Players to impress included John Trimble in his first adult game, Patrick Haughian and Danny Trimble and good to see the latter two back playing for the club. A big thank you to Barry Cotter for his help in organising the game. First game for the Reserves will take place next Sunday, March 4, with fixtures still to be confirmed.

Under 8 football practice starts this Saturday morning, February 25, in the Ambrose Rogers Sports Hall, Longstone, from 11am-12pm. All U-8 boys and girls welcome. Contact Denis Cotter, 07763 346905, for more information if required.

Camogie notes: Many thanks to all those who gave up some time on a Saturday recently to help with the Bag Pack in Asda. This Saturday, February 25, Cash for Clothes will be at Longstone from 12-3pm. All players and supporters are asked to bring up any unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags to help raise some funds for the camogie club towards costs such as equipment and kit. Anyone not able to make it to Longstone is asked to please contact Catherine Haughian, 07706 202404, to arrange collection. All club camogie teams train indoors on Monday night as follows: U10 & U-12 6-7pm/ U-14, U-16 & Minor 7-8pm/ Junior 8-9pm.

U-12 Training for the year will continues on Wednesday evenings in Longstone Hall 5.45 – 7pm.

U-14 practice continues on Wednesday evening from 7-8pm sharp. All players over 10 and under 14 are welcome. Players are asked to bring their own water bottle and to be ready to start at 7pm.

Would all those underage players, U-8 to Minor, who have not yet paid their membership please pay one of their team mentors this week at training.

All membership now due for adults-please contact Dympna Rooney.

Youth Club: Well done to Tiarnan Fegan winner of the recent Youth Club pool tournament and runner up Conor McCartan. Thanks to Damian Young who donated the trophies to the youth club. This Friday night Primary, 7-8.30pm and Secondary, 8.30-10pm. Supervision rota for Primary: Kerry Trainor, Martina Sloan, Orla Barry, Kirstie Smyth, Jonathan McVeigh, Damian Cunningham and Liam Doran. Primary supervision starts at 6.45pm. Secondary rota: Lynn Shields, Aine Fegan, Joe Fegan and Ferghal Young.

Fancy Dress Disco (Dresswear from the 60s to the 90s encouraged) in Longstone Hall this Saturday, February 25, with DJ McGiggs. Doors open at 9.30pm.

Ulster have reached the Railway Cup football final (Interprovincial series) with a win over Connacht on Sunday. Well done to Mark Poland who helped set up the first goal and scored the second one for Ulster. The final will be played this Sunday against Munster.

Action Cancer Big Bus is available to come to Longstone on Tuesday April 24 if there is a suitable number interested. It offers 24 mammograms for women aged 40-49 years of age and the cost is £12 per person. It also offers 12 appointments, free of charge, for general health checks such as, blood pressure, cholestrol, cancer awareness, and 12 appointments for Body Composition Analysis. Both of these checks are open to males and females aged 16 and over. If interested please contact Joe Fegan 07738 810909 by end of today (Wednesday).
