Killeavy GAA, club news and events – 7th February

Championship Draws for 2012

The first county board meeting of the year was held on Wednesday night and as is traditional, the draws for the various championships were held. Killeavy were drawn out against Middletown in the Intermediate championship and we know all about our opponents as it is a re‐run of last year’s first round which needed a replay before we managed to advance. Our Seconds team have been handed a very tough assignment in the Junior championship against Ballyhegan who have been regarded from the Intermediate. Our hurlers will also get a sense of déjà vu when they come up against Camlough Craobh Rua who defeated them at the same stage last year.

All in all, a very tough draw for all Killeavy’s senior teams. Maybe the big news of the night however was the decision taken to change the league format from four divisions of 12 to three divisions of 16. Places in the new divisions will be determined by league positions over the last three years and there is an outside possibility that Killeavy could find themselves back in Division 1 this year. The new groupings will only be announced this Monday and we await with interest to see whether we will be travelling to Crossmaglen or Clonmore.

Hurling/Camogie News

The AGM of our hurlers/camogs was held last Monday evening with Kevin McCann and Sean Callan being re‐elected to the posts of Chair and Secretary respectively. Arising from the meeting, it was decided that a joint hurling/camogie development plan on all aspects of coaching, volunteers, participation, school links and all other relevant areas would be prepared. Any suggestions that you might have for inclusion in the plan should be emailed to davidon151071@yahoo.co.uk or fidelma@live.co.uk in the next two weeks. All suggestions will be gratefully received. Killeavy hurlers are running a bus to Croke Park to support Middletown in the All‐Ireland intermediate club final on Saturday 11 February. The bus will be leaving the club at 4.15pm. All u16’s must be accompaniedby parents. Numbers are needed a.s.a.p. to secure the bus. Anyone interested please contact Sean Callan on 077 3600 4223.

Killeavy Social Club

Saturday Darts resumed last weekend with some very strange attempted checkouts in the final game. The pairing of Fiona (The Queen Bee) Answorth and Alan (The Destroyer) McManus proved just too strong for Lizzy (The Left Hand) Quinn and Mark (The Perfectionist) Shevlin. More craic this Saturday night. A general call please for anyone who has borrowed tables and chairs from the Social Club to make arrangements for their return. They will be much in demand for upcoming functions. A combined meeting of the Social Club and Ladies Committees will be held in the Social Club this Monday 6th February at 8.15pm. The focus will be on getting these committees up and running again for 2012 and we would ask as many people as possible to attend and offer little bits of help where possible.

Scór Sinsir 2012

The first round of the senior Scór takes place this Sunday evening in Whitecross at 7.00pm. Killeavy will be represented in the Ceili Dancing, Solo Singing, Set Dancing and Quiz categories. We wish our participants well in their respective competitions and look forward to the support of as many as possible from the Killeavy community. Watch out for updates on Sundays results on the website and facebook during the week.
