Armagh match champions at the Athletic Grounds
Armagh fought back to gain an impressive draw against 2010 All Ireland champions Cork in a low scoring affair at the Athletic Grounds. The result means Armagh have gained a valuable point in Division One as they once again target survival in the league.
The first half was a scrappy display, producing few scores but plenty of talking points, including an incident between Armagh’s Finian Moriarity and Cork’s Paul Kerrigan which saw Kerrigan get a straight red reducing Cork to 14 men.
Despite being a man down the Rebels led by 5 points at half time and the result looked like ia foregone conclusion as Armagh could only manage 1 point in an entire half of football. However, a remarkable 7 points on the bounce in the second half put the game in their favour. Eugene McVerry in particular impressed in his league debut by hitting 4 of the 7 points.
Defending league champions Cork went on to regain the lead with two points from Sean Kiely and Donncha O’Connor but Armagh responded with a point of their own from Brian Mallon in injury time to even the score once again. Final score at the Athletic Grounds, Armagh 0-10 Cork 1-7.
