James McCartan says Dan Gordon could continue as Down full back this year, despite his man of the match performance at wing forward against Armagh on Sunday. Better known as a midfielder or a full forward, Gordon was switched to full back in 2010 when Down reached the All-Ireland final, and has been first-choice full back ever since. “That’s a question I don’t know the answer to,” the Down manager said when asked where the Loughinisland man will be deployed this year. He continued, “Dan did very well today and caught a lot of ball. But we’re not overloaded with corner backs and a full back. We had two backs on a yellow card and we had no-one in the squad to come on.” He added, “So it might be just a game-to-game thing. Dan spent the last 10 minutes at full back anyway – he saw there was danger and he didn’t need us to switch it, he read it and tidied up a few balls for us.”
