Sinn Fein’s Mickey Brady: “Allegations of Sexual Assault must be subject to a full and rigorous investigation”

Newry Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has said that all allegations of assault, in particular those of sexual assault, must be treated with the utmost seriousness and were entitled to full and rigorous investigation by the police.

Mr Brady was speaking after revelations that a young woman who faced charges of wasting police time and perverting the course of justice over a rape claim has had the charges dropped.

“Allegations of assault and in particular those of serious sexual assault must be treated with the utmost gravity and should be subjected to a full and rigorous investigation by the PSNI. That is what our communities and we as elected representatives expect”

“It is imperative that we as a society ensure that those who report sexual assault should be treated professionally, gently and respectfully with immediate access to the services and support they need so that all victims have the confidence to come forward and report these crimes so that we can bring the perpetrators to justice”.
