‘Stretch for Samaritans’ fundraiser announced
The Buttercrane Shopping Centre will be welcoming a charity fundraiser next week in aid of Newry Samaritans. On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th January tutors and students from The Yoga Studio will give demonstrations of Yoga and Tai Chi and invite the public to participate in simple, safe stretching and breathing practices.
In the current economic climate many people are experiencing financial hardship and uncertainty about future work prospects, stress levels are rising at a frightening rate, leading to mental and physical ill-health. The Samaritans provide a much needed service by providing emotional support to people who, for a variety of reasons are finding it difficult to cope. Being listened to, in confidence, without fear of judgement can be a huge relief and is often the first step to finding emotional stability and well-being.
Yoga, by its very nature, is also non-judgmental and through body awareness and simple breathing techniques, practitioners learn to take charge of their own lives. Many students who have come to classes at The Yoga Studio in Abbey Yard, find that they become more confident and centred and able to deal with problems that might once have seemed insurmountable.
