Suspect device found at Keady Barracks

Local Sinn Féin councillor Darren McNally has condemned those who left what police have described as a ‘viable device’ at Keady barracks on Sunday night. Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor McNally said, “This has caused nothing but inconvenience to local residents some of whom were evacuated from their homes for a period of time. I would urge the people who placed this device in Keady to outline their reasoning and what they hoped to achieve.”

Newry Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan echoed his Sinn Fein colleague’s sentiments, stating, “Once again the future of Keady barracks must be called into question following this incident.  The barracks in Keady serves no function which could not be provided from Armagh so I believe that now is the time to look at the permanent removal of the barracks which is nothing more than an eye sore in the village.”
