Newry’s Lost Generation, with Aaron O’Callaghan

Aaron left Newry for Liverpool

Name: Aaron O’Callaghan.

Age: 22.

Education/experience: I’m a university student in my second year in IT & Multimedia.

What part of Newry & Mourne are you originally from? Armagh Road in the city.

When did you leave Newry? September 2011.

Why did you leave Newry? To go to university.

Who did you go to Liverpool with? With my girlfriend.

What are you doing now in Liverpool? Are you working? I’m a student right now, just finishing second year then coming back to Newry in the summer to start work placement.

Are you enjoying life away from Newry? Yeah, it’s a completely different lifestyle.

What do you miss most about Newry? My family and the food. Ken’s, La Dolce Vita and a greasy Chicken burger from Friar Tucks is on the menu when I get home this Christmas!

Career ambition (your perfect job)? Successful job in web design, animation or online advertising.

What would you say to anybody still living in Newry who can’t find work? Stick at it and try harder, I hate people applying for one or two jobs then giving up and moaning, “There’s no jobs going”.

Anything else you would like to add? I’m really looking forward to coming back to Newry for Christmas. See you all soon!
