Speaking after a meeting with senior PSNI officials, the Newry and Armagh MLA comments, “Since its publication, the South Armagh Policing Review has been met with overwhelming support by our local community.

“Frustratingly, hard-line elements within political unionism have gone out of their way to obstruct and frustrate its implementation.

“So I have sought assurances from the PSNI that full implementation of the report will be delivered.

“I’m pleased to say that a neighbourhood inspector has been appointed and will be based out of Newtownhamilton Police Station.

“In addition to that, police have already begun transitioning away from unmarked vehicles in South Armagh, which is an important step towards normalising policing in our area.

“Harmonising policing in South Armagh with the rest of the North isn’t just pragmatic policy, it is critically overdue.

“It is important that all stakeholders remain focused on implementing the South Armagh Policing Review in its entirety without delay.

“I will continue to press the PSNI and Justice Minister Naomi Long to ensure that this happens,” he adds.
