Call for traffic calming measures in Belleek

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty has called on Transport NI to carry out an urgent review of traffic safety in Belleek.

Speaking to Newry Times, McNulty explained, “I have been approached by a number of residents in Belleek who are very concerned about the speed of traffic going through the village of Belleek.

“People are afraid someone will lose their life because of the speed of traffic approaching and hurtling through the village. This must stop.

“I have asked Transport NI for an urgent review of traffic speeds and have asked that consideration is given to bringing forward a traffic calming scheme for the village,” he continued.

“The village has the Primary School, Chapel and of course the play park, not to mention that there are a lot of young families living in the locality. This issue needs to be addressed urgently.’

“I would appeal for motorists travelling through the village to take care and slow down.

The local MLA added, “I will continue to press Transport NI for safety measures in the village and will continue to engage with them in the time ahead.”
