Police in Newry are investigating a series of thefts and criminal damage to memorial monuments in the Newry area.

These occurred sometime after 11pm on Friday the 22nd of June.

Speaking to Newry Times, Chief Inspector Joe McMinn said, “This is now an active investigation and police are determined to bring those responsible before the courts.

“This is a totally unacceptable criminal action targeting monuments that hold great significance for the local community and police are asking for anyone with information about who was responsible to contact Ardmore station or any local police officer on the 101 number quoting ref RM18040276.”
