Car arson attack described as “reckless criminal act”

Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has described an arson attack at Dromintee as a “reckless criminal act”.

In the early hours of Good Friday morning, a car which was parked in the driveway of a house at Forest Park was deliberately set alight.

Neighbours were alerted by the tyres exploding and phoned the Fire Service who were quickly on the scene and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Larkin said, “This attack was a reckless and criminal act which endangered the lives and homes of residents living beside the vehicle.

“Only for the quick reaction of the householders and prompt arrival of the Fire Brigade we could be dealing with a tragedy.

He added, “I would encourage anyone who has any piece of information relating to this crime to either contact myself in confidence or the police.”
