Man found dead in Newry house

Police in Newry have charged a 32-year-old-man with manslaughter following the death of a man in the city.

The charge comes after the death of a 51-year-old man in the Dublin Road area on Wednesday.

 

 

Detectives also arrested four men aged 56, 46, 34 and 32 and a woman (50).

They were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences.

The offences included Possession of a Class A controlled drug, namely heroin, with intent to supply.

The arrests followed a search of a property in the city yesterday.

All five people are currently in custody.

 

 

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady called for information following the death.

Speaking to Newry Times, Brady said, “I am shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely death of a young man in Newry last night.

“My thoughts and condolences are with the family in a profoundly difficult period, and I call on anyone with any information to come forward to the PSNI,” he added.
