SRC students win big at Newry Film Festival

The Newry Short Film Festival Student Awards took place recently in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, with three SRC students picking up awards.

The Annual Newry Film Festival gives young filmmakers from the surrounding area the opportunity to have their work screened in front of a live audience and gain valuable feedback from a number of industry professionals who make up the judging panel.

Films were submitted primarily by students in the Newry area with five schools represented.

Among the participants, Southern Regional College was represented by Media students from the Newry, Banbridge and Armagh Campuses.

The three prizes up for grabs on the night were Best Film, Best Director and the Audience Award.

All three prizes went to current and former SRC students with Conall Coulter from Newry, Daragh McSloy from Hilltown and Anna-Louise Dougan from Collone picking up the awards respectively for films they produced in the last year.

In total, six films from SRC students played on the night and the high quality of the productions was praised by the judges and audiences alike.
