Team Niall take on Belfast Marathon in memory of local man Niall Quinn

Team Niall 2Team Niall are stepping up to the Belfast City Marathon challenge in memory of their dear friend, loving dad and husband, Niall Quinn.

On the 1st May 2017 an incredible team of 25 will walk, run and relay to show their love and support to the Quinn/Higgins family and other people suffering from chest, heart and stroke illness in Northern Ireland.

Wife Rosie and husband Niall Quinn were married 7 months when he died suddenly while out running, at the start of the New Year.

25th March 2017The team are hoping to raise awareness of cardiomyopathy by supporting Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke through their fundraising efforts.

Rosie says, “Niall was outgoing, such a bubbly character. We were married just last June, but we’ve been together for seven years. We had settled down and were loving life.”

She explains while her husband had suffered from cardiomyopathy, it “didn’t stop him in life” and he was determined to keep fit in a bid to have a “greater chance of a better, longer life”.

“Since it happened, all I have seen is a lot of love for him, the town loved him, and we all loved him. Niall just wanted to live life and enjoy life, to enjoy his family. He wanted to see his son James grow up and become the next Rory McIlroy, he had even bought him a golf set for his first Christmas.”

Rosie continued, “Also at Christmas, as an incentive to get me fit and active, Niall bought me a pair of running shoes. Even he and I, both thought I would never use them but now they are being put to good use and he will get his wish! Niall will love everyone getting active in his honour and undoubtedly he will probably be laughing at us all too.

“He loved running; he had completed a few mini marathons and was so proud of getting the medals to prove it. My daughter and I hope to hang up our medals beside Niall’s at our home in memory of Niall and his outstanding passion for running.”

Team Niall 1Team Niall are taking on the Belfast City Marathon to raise funds for Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke. Niall suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy and there is a 50/50 chance that his son may be affected too by the illness.

Rosie is determined to do as much as possible for research into the condition, not just this year but hopefully every year, as her son may need the help and support in the future.

You too can help to support people in Northern Ireland affected by chest, heart and stroke illnesses. Grab your running shoes and run, walk or relay in one of the biggest fundraising events in Northern Ireland and make a real difference to local lives like the Quinn/Higgins families.
