Letters to the Editor, ‘Volunteers – ordinary people doing extraordinary things’

Over the past year your paper has featured the excellent work carried out by many local volunteers who undertake a variety of action from saving lives to making sport happen.

Letters to the EditorThis year, when we have just celebrated the 32nd Anniversary of Volunteers’ Week I ask you to join me in thanking these individuals for the positive impact they make on the lives of others.

Across Northern Ireland volunteers are involved in a wide variety of roles including fundraising, hospital visiting, playgroups, animal shelters and massive events such as Tall Ships, Balmoral Show and the recent Gran Fondo.

There are currently over a quarter of a million volunteers in Northern Ireland who all play a vital role and Volunteers’ Week gives us the opportunity to shine the spotlight on these local people and give them the recognition and thanks they deserve.

With over 3000 opportunities currently available across Northern Ireland there is something for everyone.
