Newry and Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has congratulated Dearbhail Savage on her incredible haul of medals for Ireland at the Special Olympics. dearbhail_savage“This was another tremendous effort from Team Ireland and they have once again done the entire country proud,” she said. “In particular I want to recognise Dearbhail Savage, now of Clady but formerly from Netownhamilton, for her amazing haul of two gold and a silver. It was a stunning performance and the entire county, indeed the entire country, couldn’t be prouder of her. Well done Dearbhail and well done to all the athletes from Team Ireland.” Newtownhamilton Councillor Barra Ó Muirí also added his congratulations. “Dearbhail’s roots are here in Newtown and the whole place is just buzzing with the news of her victories,” he said. “Everyone has been following her updates on social media and cheering her on. It was an amazing performance from Dearbhail and she’s sure of a rapturous welcome on her return.” Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan encouraged everyone to come out for Dearbhail’s victorious homecoming later this week. “There’s going to be a big homecoming celebration for Dearbhail in Clady on Thursday and I’d encourage everyone to come out welcome our very own Olympic champion home,” he said. “Dearbhail has been a great representative for her family, her county and her country so I think it’s only fitting that we give her the hero’s return she deserves.”
