Newry Trade Unions in rallying call for strike action

Newry Trades Union Council has called on local people to support the Strike Action by Public Sector workers against the social and economic aspects of the Stormont House Agreement this Friday 13th of March.

Commenting on the Strike, Cara Murchan, the Chair person of Newry TUC said, “The strike this Friday 13th is about saving the public services that we all use whether it is health, education, or transport.

“The Irish Congress of Trade Unions have called for this action to give a platform for workers and the public to tell the politicians at Stormont enough is enough. None of our political parties sought a mandate from the elctorate to push the austerity policies of the Tories in London.”

Ms Murchan concluded, “It is vital that workers support this call for action likewise it is equally important that every part of local civic society help to defend the public services that we all rely on.

“Newry TUC are calling on local people to attend the lunchtime rally at Daisy Hill on Friday afternoon and add your voices to the growing demands to change the social and economic aspects of the Stormont House Agreement.”
