Police in Newry are appealing for information following an attempted hijacking on Friday, 20th February. At around 8pm on Friday night, a black Insignia car pulled up outside the Vivo shop on Talbot Street. The male driver left the vehicle running and got out. An adult female and two nine year old boys remained inside the car. Detective Sergeant Lisa McClure explained, “Two males walked past the car and one of the men opened the back door and pulled at one of the boys in the back. “The boy was strapped in and the man ran off from the car. He is described as being in his mid 20s, around 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a white coloured tracksuit. “The second male also ran off and he is described as being in his early 30s, of stocky build with a tattoo below his left ear and a shaved head. He was wearing a white t-shirt and black jacket. She added, “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or has information in relation to it. We can be contacted in Ardmore Police Station on 101, quoting ref: 1158 200215.” If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
