ABP Food Group Lurgan and Newry organised a lavish Gala Ball to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society recently in The Canal Court Hotel, Newry. Claire Duffy, who was the lead organiser of the event in partnership with ABP said, “The Gala Ball has far exceeded all our expectations and I am absolutely delighted that we raised an amazing sum of over £40,000 for Alzheimer’s Society. “The added bonus to the evening was that we were able to deliver more awareness and understanding of dementia to all the guests and you cannot put a price on that. “My personal motivation for organising the night was driven by my own, and my families pain at watching our dear mum who is currently fighting this cruel disease. She added, “Dementia costs the UK £23billion a year. This is more than the cost of cancer, heart disease and stroke combined. Alzheimer’s Society champions the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them. “I am very proud that all my and ABP’s fundraising efforts for the charity will help make a real difference.” Bernadine McCrory, Operations Director for Alzheimer’s Society in Northern Ireland, said, “We are extremely grateful to Claire Duffy and her family, Liam McCarthy and all at ABP Lurgan and Newry and also to all the sponsors who donated prizes and the guests who gave so generously on the evening. “We know very well the time, energy and resources that go into delivering such a prestigious event and we all at Alzheimer’s Society are delighted that the services we deliver in Northern Ireland are supported and highlighted by this fantastic event. Bernadine added, “As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals and companies like Claire and ABP Food Group to help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.” If you have any concerns about your own memory, a family member or friend or perhaps you are caring for someone living with dementia and would like some help or support, then please ring your Locality Office at Ballybot House in Newry where fully trained staff will be on hand to assist you.
