Sinn Féin Newry & Mourne Councillor Barra Ó Muirí has said that an incident in Dungormley Housing Estate in Newtownhamilton yesterday allegedly involving a handgun had caused deep shock and concern within the local community,

“My understanding is that a man forced his way into a home on Dungormley Estate,” he told Newry Times. “It is unclear as to why this home was entered or if it was the case of mistaken identity; this is a totally unacceptable action. Thankfully no one was injured, but it must have been a very frightening experience for all. He added, “This attack was wrong and must be condemned. It is important that a clear message goes out that there is no place for guns on our streets. Our community does not want this.”
