The Rug House based in Carnbane Industrial Estate, Newry have won the 2014 Exporter of the Year at the DANI Awards held in St Colmb’s Hall in Derry.

The Rug House Staff, Suzanna Hall, Elaine Simpson and Stephen McElrone

The DANI Awards are the premier awards for online and digital businesses in Northern Ireland. The online retailer fought of stiff competition from over 50 firms to claim the prize. Siblings Paul and Clare Vallely started the business in 2006 and now sell up to 3,000 rugs a week across the world to over 30 countries including the England, Spain, France, Italy and the USA. The award comes as a result of continued growth from the local business, which has doubled its work force in two years to 23 staff. The company growth year on year has been 60% with an increase in export growth of 400% last year. 98% of sales are outside Northern Ireland which has facilitated such rapid growth. With the opening of a new £80,000 showroom in Newry and a new website HERE to be launched in November these are exciting times. Speaking to Newry Times, owner Clare Vallely explained, “We are thrilled to receive the award which recognises our growth and hard work. Over the coming months we plan to create five new jobs. “We have been thrilled with the reaction from the public to the opening of our showroom. The new showroom gives a public side to our thriving online business. The showroom is open Monday to Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9am to 1pm,” she added.
