SDLP Culture spokesperson Karen McKevitt MLA has hailed the appointment of Jim McCorry as manager of the Down senior football team as a “new beginning” for the squad. The Armagh native succeeds James McCartan as the new manager of the Mourne county. Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “I’m absolutely delighted that Jim has taken over the reigns of managing the senior team. He has a wealth of experience and a track record of success, and I know he will give 100 per cent to the job. “Jim has already demonstrated his dedication and commitment to the sport with his success with reigning county champions Kilcoo. I wish him the best of luck, and I will be supporting him and the team at every opportunity.” McKevitt also paid tribute to former Down manager, James McCartan praising him for his contribution and the great strides he made with the senior side.
