Excitement builds for Rostrevor Mountainbike Festival

On the 8th and 9th March the second annual Rostrevor Mountainbike Festival in Association with Newry & Mourne District Council will be held in Kilbroney park, Rostrevor.

This picturesque village is the home of Northern Irelands most extensive mountainbike trail centre and boasts some of the most technically demanding trails on offer.

The trail centre has only been open 9 months and has already surpassed all expectations regarding visitor numbers for the first year.

Big events like the World Police and Fire Games and the Redbull Foxhunt have been a huge success in 2013, attracting thousands of riders and spectators to the area and this years Festival promises to be as good as ever.

What makes the events in Rostrevor so special is the support the locals give. The local community are encouraged to come along and enjoy the atmosphere and witness some of the best riders in the country taking part in some spectacular racing.

Practice for both Downhill and Cross Country disciplines take place on Saturday 8th March and racing on Sunday 9th March. Between 400-500 riders are expected over the weekend. The Cross Country race has a mix of categories.

Riders from 8 years old will be taking part on a short course race but don’t be fooled as this can be the most entertaining race of the weekend. The main race is a gruesome 2 hour test of endurance and skill over a variety of terrain.

The Downhill race is a test of skill and power on one of Rostrevors most challenging trails ‘On the Pulse’. Riders will be seeded and will have one timed run to prove who is King of the Mountain!
