Following a very successful public meeting on community safety in the Newtownhamilton area, Sinn Féin councillor Barra Ó Muirí has scheduled a follow up meeting with a view to establishing a Community Safety Group.

This meeting will take place on Wednesday 5th February in Newtownhamilton Community Centre at 8m and is open to all members of the community. Speaking ahead of the meeting Councillor Ó Muirí said, “The Community Safety Group model has been hugely successful in other parts of South Armagh and in many cases these groups have actually thwarted crimes. “I think a group like this in Newtown would be a real asset to the community and I hope that it can work in conjunction with Newtownhamilton Community Association. He added, “I have also invited a representative from Community Restorative Justice to attend the meeting to discuss ongoing issues in Dungormley Estate. I hope as many Dungormley residents as possible attend this meeting and make their views known.”
