Calls for ‘clamp down’ on dog fouling in Rostrevor

Mark Gibbons, Sinn Féin spokesperson for the Crotlieve electoral area, has called on dog owners in Rostrevor to ensure they clean up after their dogs after being contacted about the issue by a large number of concerned residents.

Speaking to Newry Times, Gibbons commented, “The situation is becoming intolerable in many parts of the village such as Kilbroney Road, Newtown Road, Forestbrook Park, Greenpark Road and the Warrenpoint Road.

“I appreciate that the vast majority of dog owners in the area are responsible and clean up after their pets but the selfish minority are ruining it for everyone else.

“It should also be remembered that dog fouling is a health hazard, with very serious repercussions, particularly for children.

Gibbons added, “As one potential solution I will be asking local Sinn Féin councillor Mick Murphy to suggest to Newry and Mourne Council that they expand their bagging operation in Kilbroney Park, which has improved the park and should be extended to other parts of the village.”
