Newry girls travel to Rugby Blitz in Armagh
On Sunday 8th December, over 100 girls from all over the Province travelled to the City of Armagh RFC for a Rugby Blitz.
A total of 25 matches were played over two pitches, consisting of tag and contact games to accommodate all participants.
Hosts Armagh were delighted to welcome two new girls youth teams from Dungannon RFC, and Newry RFC. They gave a great account of themselves and for their coaches and clubs throughout the day.
Clogher Valley, Enniskillen, Letterkenny and Virginia Rugby Clubs also joined in the fun.
Ulster Rugby’s Female Rugby Officer, Zoe Templeton, stated, “This was a very successful day for female rugby, and shows the rising demand for youth teams in Ulster.
“This is partly due to the success of Ireland Women in winning the Six Nations Grand Slam at the start of the year, but also the work carried out by Ulster Rugby staff members and the increasing number of volunteers at club level.”
This event was made possible due to the generous support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the ‘Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport’ programme.
