Letters to the Editor – ‘Homeless sit-out by Newry youth workers a selfless, kind act’

Dear Editor,

Re: October Homeless sit out.

I feel I must write to you to bring to your attention and that of your readership a selfless kind act by members of our community.

Recently a group of youth workers in Newry in co ordination with youth clubs from Barcroft, Parkhead, Whitegates and members of the Magnet Centre staged a 30 hour sit out/ sleep out to highlight the very human tragedy which is the plight of homelessness in our district among teenagers and young adults.

This charitable event was carried out with community spirit and kinship in an unassuming way without the organisers seeking Kudos or public recognition or marching to the beat of any political mantra.

This event was kindly supported by local businesses. It is immensely heart-warming to see first hand evidence of the existence of a strong voluntary community spirit within the district and the benevolence which was also displayed.

All the supporters and organisers deserve our congratulations and should be commended for their display of solidarity and community spirit.

Well done to all.
