Customers of Thomas Cook in the Buttercrane Shopping Centre, Newry, have voted the branch ‘Best Multiple Retail Agency’ in the Province in this year’s Northern Ireland Travel & Tourism Awards. The awards were presented by television favourite Les Dennis at an event attended by more than 600 people at the Slieve Donard hotel, Newcastle. Victory in the category was assured for the Thomas Cook Co-operative Travel group ahead of the prize-giving, with all four finalists in ‘Best Multiple’ coming from the Group. Joining Buttercrane in the shortlist were Thomas Cook Bow Street, Lisburn; and the Co-operative Travel stores in Kilkeel and Ballymena Fairhill. The Thomas Cook Co-operative Travel branches fought off stiff competition from 36 qualifying travel stores across Northern Ireland. The judges took into account votes from customers and five separate ‘Mystery Shops’ of the branch carried out by the awards organisers, Northern Ireland Travel News. Now in their 22nd year, the NI Travel & Tourism Awards ask customers for feedback on a number of factors including staff’s product knowledge, helpfulness, attitude and customer service; as well as the range of product available and the impartiality of sales advice. Una Mc Cartan, Branch Manager of Newry Buttercrane commented, “We are all absolutely delighted to receive this award, particularly because so much of it is based on feedback from our customers. “We work hard to create a nice local feel in the branch and to give great service, so it’s nice to know that our customers recognise that and were willing to take the time to vote for us. We’d also like to congratulate the other Group stores who made up the final four on such a brilliant achievement for them.”
