Excitement builds ahead of Crossmaglen Rangers and Cullyhanna decider

South Armagh SDLP Councillor Geraldine Donnelly has described the community spirit in South Armagh as being at an ‘all-time high’ ahead of this week’s much anticipated Senior County Final.

Councillor Donnelly spoke to Newry Times and stated, “On Sunday Crossmaglen Rangers will take on local club and rivals St Patrick’s Cullyhanna in this year’s Senior County Final and the atmosphere is electric locally.

“The community spirit is at an all-time high and whilst I am an ardent Crossmaglen Rangers fan, we’re all hoping for a great game of football on Sunday. This might be the eighteenth consecutive final for Crossmaglen, but it might as well be the first.

“The GAA and all it represents is at the heart of every home in South Armagh and no more so than this week. But the GAA is about much more than the games played on the field, our clubs are at the heart of our communities.

“Last week I attended an Afternoon Tea in the Rangers Hall organised by a fantastic group of local ladies known as the South Armagh Fruit Cakes and then this Sunday morning I was at the Big Breakfast hosted by Silverbridge GFC and the atmosphere was electric and these events and many like them are happening all over the County week in week out to support our local clubs.

Donnelly added, “In Silverbridge on Sunday it was great to see the support from neighbouring clubs and communities and the craic was great between the Crossmaglen and Cullyhanna people. This is what the GAA is about and we all look forward to a great game of football on Sunday and may the best team win.”
