Newry City Linkages Public Realm Scheme open evening

An Environmental Improvement Scheme is programmed to start in Newry along Buttercrane and Merchants Quay at the start of October 2013 and run until June 2014.

The works will comprise the replacement of the existing canal boundary wall with a new decorative maritime railing and the removal of car parking spaces on the canal-side to facilitate the provision of a new wider granite paved/kerbed pathway.

New decorative street lighting, street furniture, tree planting and public art is also proposed as part of the scheme.

Following the appointment of a contractor, an open evening has been arranged for Thursday 26th September 2013 in Newry Town Hall Boardroom. The Contractor and Consultants will be available from 6 pm – 8 pm to outline the proposed Street Works Programme.

In particular, the Council would encourage traders, canal groups and residents to come along.

Under the scheme it is planned that traders and residents will be notified when works are due to start within their sections of the Quay.
