Police hunt group of 7 after Monaghan Street assault

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an assault in Monaghan Street during the early hours of Thursday, 18th July.

The attack happened on Monaghan Street

Between 2.30am and 3am a group of three friends were walking along Monaghan Street when three men approached them and attempted to goad them into a fight. One of the men was wearing a white shirt.

The three friends walked on to a taxi stand and shortly after approximately seven men approached them. The group of men surrounded the three and the 19 year old male victim was assaulted.

He sustained facial injuries which required hospital treatment.

It is believed the area was busy at this time and police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact them in Newry on 0845 600 8000.
