Flooding resolution to St Jude Gardens welcomed

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the announcement by the NI Water that work to resolve the flooding problem in St Jude’s Garden Rostrevor will begin on the autumn.

Ruane told Newry Times, “There has been an ongoing flooding problem in the St Jude’s Garden Rostrevor over the past few years.

“I have spoken to NI Water over the period and I am delighted that they have announced that work to resolve the issue will begin in autumn. The work will consist of separating the storm drain from the main sewage network and installing a new stand alone storm drain to deal with any heavy rainfall.

Councillor Mick Murphy added, “NI Water embarked on an investigation into the flooding and realised that having a storm drain and main sewage pipes on the one system cannot handle the pressure during heavy rainfall.

“I would like to thank NI Water in working with the community in order to address the problem. This new drainage system will be in place before the onset of winter and the worst of the weather.

Murphy added, “I am sure that the residents of St Jude’s will be delighted that the problem has been resolved and that the threat of flooding to their homes has been greatly reduced.”
