‘SDLP amendments present coherent and value based approach’ – Bradley
SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley has urged unionists to back SDLP amendments on the upcoming Civil Service (Special Advisors) Bill which comes before the Assembly on Tuesday 19th March.
Speaking to Newry Times, Bradley said, “The amendments tabled by the SDLP present a clear strategy for putting into effect a law which gives due and proper respect to victims.
“I acknowledge that Sinn Fein have moved ground since the bill was tabled in that they now recognise there needs to be a standard applied when assessing who may be appointed a Special Advisor. However, their proposed test is considerably watered down to what we in the SDLP would like to see.
“It would seem however that Sinn Fein recognises as the SDLP have always said that this is a sensitive issue and the SDLP amendments offer a credible and acceptable approach to dealing with those victims who have gone through so much.
Bradley added, “We are also calling on Unionists to back our amendments and sign up to a coherent, comprehensive and value based approach to this issue.”
