MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt is calling on the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment to assist businesses in South Down after discovering that the constituency has the second highest number of bankruptcy cases in 2012/2013.

Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “In the current financial year to date there have been 85 bankruptcy cases in the South Down area and 83 cases in Newry and Armagh constituency.

“Action is needed from the Minister and arms-length bodies such as Invest NI, to ensure that our local businesses will not be forced to close up shop and file for bankruptcy.

She added, “More needs to be done to assist the business sector to kick start our economy.”
