Community, What's On
Newry Cancer Fundraising Committee is hosting its 15th Annual Big Breakfast Charity Event on Friday 22nd March 2013 in aid of raising much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK – Northern Ireland. The fundraising committee invite the people of the greater Newry & Mourne area to come along and support the event, which will commence at 7:00am and run until 11:00am in Bellinis, Newry. This would be an excellent opportunity to spend special time with family, friends and work colleagues while supporting such a worthwhile charity. Last year the Newry organisation raised a remarkable sum of £3,000 and this year they hope to raise more and they depend on the generosity of the general public and business community to help them reach their target. Chairman Mr. Gervase McCartan stated, “When we began working for the charity only 50% of breast cancer patients survived. Now the figure is 80% and that is just one example. “One in three of us will get cancer and if we are to change this statistic it will be only be through research and continued support of our 30 scientists based at the Cancer Research & Cell Biology Centre at Queen’s University Belfast.” The breakfast fee will be a minimum of £10 donation.
