Deputy Mayor praises Newry Musical Feis

Sinn Féin Deputy Mayor for Newry and Mourne District, Packie McDonald attended the first session of the Newry Musical Feis that took place on Thursday.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor McDonald said he was delighted to learn that the Newry Musical Feis is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.

“I was very impressed with the young talent that participates in the six week period of the Feis. It was very much evident the commitment and dedication that each individual put into this, although the Feis only lasts for six weeks, those involved meet voluntarily every week for a year.

“I spoke to a member of the committee and they explained the year long voluntary dedication it takes to organise this yearly event, they must be commended for the excellent organisation as it is the biggest Feis in the country.

He added, “I was informed that there is on average 14,000 participants each year, this is an excellent achievement and credit to all those involved.”
